Does Indexborn overwrite my original files?

No. Analysis is non-destructive. You review the proposed result and copy it to a separate output folder.

What leaves my PC during AI analysis?

Indexborn prepares a bounded text and metadata extract locally and sends that evidence to OpenAI for naming. It does not upload the original file. Potentially sensitive items are held for review, and image or PDF previews are sent only if you explicitly enable that setting.

What can I do in the free version?

Free mode finds exact duplicates and lets you choose an output folder for the redundant copies. Indexborn creates a timestamped run folder inside it, keeps one verified copy, and never permanently deletes anything. The output must be outside the scanned folder so moved copies do not appear in the next scan. AI naming, organization, and export require a paid plan.

Which version of Windows is supported?

Indexborn is currently built and tested as a Windows 11 desktop app.

What does BYOK mean?

BYOK means “Bring Your Own Key”. Buy and activate a valid Indexborn license first, then connect your own OpenAI API key in the Windows app. Your key stays protected on your PC and is not sent to Indexborn's license server. OpenAI bills API usage separately; your Indexborn subscription does not include AI credit, and a ChatGPT subscription does not include API credit. Free duplicate finding requires neither an Indexborn license nor an API key.
